From development, to pour offs, to packaging- each fellow gets a great deal of attention and love. For this reason, we like to think of our candles as freshly poured hand-me-downs.

The Process

We put great detail into our fragrance development, working and re-working the ratios of our fragrance oils to really capture a specific feeling or moment in time. This is the most lengthy process of our candle creation. Our goal is not perfection, but rather connection, in hopes that each individual who experiences fellowhouse is able to relate it to a memory just as special as the one that inspired it.

Once the scent is determined, the glassware is selected, most commonly thrifted from a second-hand store or donation center. Though candles from the same batch may look different due to wick size based on vessel choice, the quality and burn time remain the same. The decision to use upcycled glassware challenges the ease of overconsumption and keeps each candle unique.

All fellowhouse labels are created and printed in-house with a simple, organic design and a little bit of home-spun quirk. Postcards are also designed and delivered with each candle as a little way of saying thank you. Alternatively, we can send it blank for you to personalize yourself. fellowhouse candles travel in hand-stamped canvas bags, which limit material use, and they are reinforced with recycled pages from food and travel magazines for shipments. Along with helping secure the candles, it is a silly superstition of ours to think being wrapped up between these pages adds a little bit of decadence and a lot of whimsy to the candles throughout their voyage to their destined homes.

The development of every fellow is an opportunity

to breathe new life into something from the past.

The Maker

Kelly Derrig is the founder and creator at fellowhouse fragrance. Kelly grew up in a rural town outside of Scranton, PA where she frequently played host at family functions, re-enacted skits from the I Love Lucy show, and found a knack for creating with her hands.

After graduating from Philadelphia University with a Bachelor of Science in Professional Communication, Kelly quickly became drawn to the service industry. Her passion for hospitality and eventually cocktail creation cemented her commitment to bars and restaurants throughout Philly for the next ten years. It was her love of mixing, tweaking, and serving drinks that inspired the inevitable beginnings of fellowhouse, as a way to bring unexpected joy to others.

Kelly, her husband Andrew, and their cat Mae recently moved out of Philly and are enjoying the peace and quiet of farm life nearby. This new change has given an opportunity for a larger candle studio and is reminiscent of Kelly’s upbringing, which continues to be her muse for fellowhouse fragrance.
